“My name is Paul Jowett I live in Yaxley and have done so for the last 24 years. I'm a manager in a warehouse here in Peterborough. My interest in woodturning began in the early 1960s as an apprentice carpenter, where I used to make the occasional spindle, leg or other part for broken Windsor chairs and cash bowls for public houses, long before the introduction of the electronic till. “I spent 20 years of my life working on and managing dairy farms, quite a varied career. Since then I have collected work by other turners as I have no lathe of my own at the present time. I found out about your group by chance, looking at one of your members work at a car boot sale. Thoughts of joining a group re-kindled my passion for turning. It has to be one of the most rewarding of pastimes seeing work unfold in front of you with each introduction of a gouge to the timber. I look forward to the day I have a lathe of my own but I am content for the time being coming along to the monthly meetings and seeing others work. “

Since writing this Paul has gone on to become a professional turner and has been accepted into the Worshipful Company of Turners. He is also a committee member.
