Limed Ash Bowl

John started by turning an ash blank mounted on a screw chuck.  He cut a foot for his chuck on the bottom and polished as far as possible.

He then reversed the piece and cut the inside of the bowl. Having polished the inside of the bowl, he used a wire brush to clear the grain of dust on the rim and then applied green spirit stain to the rim very carefully! Notice the glove on his right hand.

Keeping the edges of the rim square is difficult, so John uses a sanding block.  To finish off with, John used liming wax to fill in the grain to give that traditional limed effect.
