January Meeting
The January meeting was held at Ferry Meadows and over twenty members plus one guest attended, which made for a cosy atmosphere. It became so cosy we had to open some windows and turn down the heating. Whilst it was a very nice room it was a bit on the small side for us but would do if nothing else was available.
To start the meeting there was a discussion about several things, including subscriptions, Robin and new equipment. Following this John Taylor gave a demonstration, unfortunately not on the bowl saver as previously advertised due to problems with the lathe and not being able to get some new parts for the bowl saver, but he has promised to do this at a later date. Instead he showed how to make a Christmas tree with a difference, more on this in a future newsletter. Also how to make a pen the Reg Sherwin way and that old favourite of kids of all ages the spinning top.
At the same time Graham Booth was holding a grinding/sharpening clinic. Several members brought along their tools to get a bit of help and went home with some very sharp implements. As far as I know none of them were arrested on the way home for carrying a dangerous weapon. Don’t forget that the club now owns a grinder set-up so if you want help and advice, or just need to sharpen some tools bring them along to the next or any other meeting.
The gallery of members work had some very nice pieces from several different members. Why not bring something along for the gallery in February.
